Using One Skill to Piggyback Sales of Another

If you have been working online to make money, you probably noticed it's getting more competitive. It may require you to think outside the box in order to get more clients for your business. One great way to do this is to use one skill to piggyback sales of another.

Suppose, for instance, you are a web developer, looking to gain more clients. You can certainly continue to peruse social media sites and put yourself out there as a web developer. This is still effective, but it may take you longer to find jobs, due to the increased competition.

Let's further suppose you are proficient at graphic design. You could offer something free with this skill as a way to break the ice with a potential client. For instance, you could search blogs online and find ones that don't have any featured graphics on their posts. You could offer to create one or two for free.

Many clients will be willing to take the free graphics for a post or two. After you deliver it, you can let them know that you do web design and would be willing to come up with a plan for the website.

What If They Resist?

Picture of Stop Sign

If you get resistance, ask how the website is doing as far as visitors and search engine rankings. You want to try to drive out the pain points as to why the site isn't doing well. Ask questions that get them to state what kinds of problems they are having (lack of traffic, no one buying, etc.)

You can then let them present your web design services as a possible solution to those problems. If they still offer resistance, ask them if they would like to join your newsletter. Specify this newsletter gives helpful tips to turn around the problems he or she is having.

The key is to keep them engaged. If they decline your newsletter offer, make sure to tell them you will follow up with them in a week, to see if they would like another graphic for another one of their posts.

Keep the Momentum Going

This becomes yet another opportunity to present your design services. At this point, take notice if they have updated their website with any more posts since you last spoke with them. If they haven't, you can remind them that having consistent and frequently updated content is one of the fundamental ways to increase their traffic and rankings to their website.

Newtons Cradle

But, here is where you can throw a wrench into the process and let them know that not just any content will suffice. This is where the magic happens. Marketers like to call this a pattern-interrupt. You were keeping the client interested by letting them think they can write the content themselves. Then, you threw in the wrench letting them know that they need someone with experience who knows how to create the right kind of content.

Then, bring them back out of the interrupt stage by letting them know that they can learn how to do it and that you have instruction videos that take them through it. They will at first be interested in this, but will think about it and state they have no time to learn how to write content. This is your opportunity to sell.

Does Content Creation Fall Within the Web Design Category?

Web Design

Content creation is not traditionally associated with web design. But, these days, the lines are blurred. Many web design companies hire content creators or content specialists as a way to add that into the mix of services offered. They often do this on an agency basis, meaning they provide the jobs for the writers for a cut of the price.

Once you have the content creation service sold to your client, you have an insider's position and can provide them with ideas about how your web design services have helped other clients.

Don't try to bombard the clients with all the web design services you provide in one shot. Instead, spoon feed them with tidbits of information that they can easily digest.

It's up to you if you want to continue providing free graphics for each post. You could factor that into the price of your content creation or you could start charging for it. Usually, it's better to let the client think they are getting something for free. But, you have to use your judgement here.

Each time you deliver to your content, tell a story about an experience with a client who was having difficulty and how a certain aspect of your web design service helped that client out. Do this casually so that it doesn't seem like you are selling.

Keeping it Free and Easy

The service or skill you provide to your client for free should be easy to perform. If you make the mistake of offering something that's going to take a long time to complete, it's going to be difficult making this idea work for you. You may be able to get away with long services for one or two clients. But, imagine if you extended this concept with many, you would be working too much for free.

In the example above, providing quick feature graphics shouldn't take anyone more than 15 minutes or so. You have to decide what constitutes long or short when it comes to offering a free service. But, the least amount spent, the better.

Remember, many of your clients don't know how to do these things or if they do, they simply don't have the time. That's why it's not on their website.

What About Sites Like Fiverr.com?

You may think your clients will simply go to Fiverr.com or similar services to get these types of services done for them. Why do they need you? Many business are not aware of these kinds of services. Even if they do, they don't have the time to manage those services. They have businesses to run.

Services to Offer

Ideas for Free Services to Offer

What if you don't provide the services mentioned above? Here are some ideas of services to offer:

  • Write Blog Posts, Ebooks, or Cheat Sheets Geared Towards Clients' Business
  • Create one edition of a newsletter for your client
  • Web audit - security, SEO, speed, etc.
  • Video creation
  • Slideshow Creation for slideshow sharing websites (Slideshare.net)
  • Optimize Social Media
  • Graphics
  • Voice Overs
  • Web Analytics
  • Advertising Services on Clients' Behalf (one free campaign, etc.)
  • Easy and small programming tasks
  • Music and voiceovers

The above list is by no means exhaustive. Use your imagination. The key is to keep them short and sweet. Don't offer up your entire service for free. It's just a means to get a conversation going with potential clients.

Have an idea of your own to provide to get clients interested? Let me know in the comment section below. I'd love to hear from you about what you think about this idea and what kinds of other services you come up with.

3 Must Have Blogging Resources

If you had to pinpoint 3 must have blogging resources, they would be as follows:

  • A Blog (Obvious)
  • Content
  • Promotion

I'll discuss each of these in detail below. Keep in mind, there may be other components, but they are supplemental.

Component #1 - A Blog

This is in no way me trying to be pedantic here and yes, it's obvious you need a blog to start blogging. However, there are some nuances to be aware of.

First, are you going to use a free blogging resource? That's fine. You just have to be aware that you have no control.

For instance, if you sign up for a WordPress.com blog, they discourage the use of affiliate links. Rules change all the time on these platforms. You can be making money one day, and then they change the rules so that what you are doing is no longer compliant.

Some platforms will be gracious enough to let you know what you what you did wrong and give you enough time to correct it. Others, won't even tell you why you are not compliant. Case in point, Squidoo.com, which now no longer exists, clobbered a bunch of lenses (what they called articles or pages) for non-compliance. They refused to let people know why. No wonder the idiots no longer exist!

People were making life-changing incomes on this platform. At the flip of a switch, those income streams dried up. It was a nasty thing to do. But, you should heed the advice that you have no control when you use platforms such as these.

These platforms can still be useful, however. They can be used to publish articles as they relate to your blog. I'll get more into this later.

Component #2 - Content

There are millions of blogs in existence today. Most of them contain very little content, if you can believe that. For some, this is by design. They are sales pages or lead capture pages that they drive traffic to. It's the only purpose of these particular websites.

For others though, people create the blogs and then let them sit idle. This happens for a number of reasons, the primary one being they don't have the time.

If you plan on blogging, make sure you publish a steady stream of content. This is the most important element of blogging. Just think about blogs you have visited. Do you appreciate blogs that are idle, or do you prefer ones that have quality content on a consistent basis? I am guessing you'd pick the latter. Consistent, quality content is the key to any blog's success!

I get that you are busy. This is understandable. But, visitors don't care about that. They want information. They want answers to their problems. They want to be engaged.

If you don't have time, find someone who does. Get someone else to write for your blog. You can look for guest bloggers who will write for free (in exchange for a byline) or you can hire writers to create content or you.

Don't limit yourself to written content. Visitors are more demanding about how they consume content nowadays. Add visual and audio components into the mix. Video continues to grow in importance.

If you have never created a video before, or if you tried and it looked like something produced by a 3-year-old, consider hiring a pro. It may cost you some money but the rewards will be worth the price.

Promotion

A blog will do you little good if no one knows about it. You need to get the word out. You need good promotional techniques.

Social media is a great means for promotion, but you need to be smart about it. Flooding these social channels with messages of "buy my stuff" will not work. It's not the right kind of platform or it. People use social media for connecting with others. Keep the social aspect intact.

The learning curve for promoting your website is large. The challenge is that the landscape keeps changing. What worked a few years ago, will no longer work now. What's worse, it could even cause penalties in the search engines. You will need to stay on top of the promotional techniques to make sure you keep with the current trends.

Stay away from tricks and easy-money types of techniques. These may work in the short-term. But, over time, they are the techniques that will get you in trouble. Sometimes, it can even be legal trouble if you're not careful.

Tips to Handle Rejection from an Affiliate Program

If you online business model is affiliate marketing, at some point you will experience getting rejected from an affiliate program.

It can be quite disconcerting, especially when you are first starting out. You wonder what you did wrong and why did the affiliate manager not want to work with you.

But, if you look at it from the manager's perspective, you may understand. You can also use that perspective to try and reverse the decision.

Why Do Affiliate Managers Reject Affiliates

There could be several reasons why affiliate managers decide to reject you from working with them. The reasons can be:

  • They feel you don't have enough experience
  • They are afraid you may use unethical methods of promotion
  • They have restrictions based on certain qualities (like location) and you fall within that category.
  • They may only work with a set number of affiliates and are past their quotas
  • They made a mistake
  • They are inexperienced

There could be other reasons, but these are the major ones that come to mind.

If you get a rejection for an affiliate program, try to find the contact information of the affiliate manager and contact him or her. Preferably, you do this on the phone, but use email if that is the only contact information you have.

Ask the manager why they chose to reject you in the program. It's been my experience that nine times out of ten, the act of calling will reverse their decision.

These managers have their companies' reputation to worry about. The last thing they need is some wayward affiliate making false claims or using less than savory methods in product the products.

When you call, the manager will ask you questions, the main one being how you plan on promoting their program. You want to explain that you only use ethical methods. They may ask what those are and you should be completely honest with them. They will know if you tell them one thing and do something entirely differently. They will ban you if you lie to them.

How to Get Around Your Inexperience

If you are just starting out with affiliate marketing, you will get rejected more often than someone with experience. One way to get around this is to join Wealthy Affiliate and make that fact known to the affiliate managers.

They likely are familiar with Wealthy Affiliate, but if they aren't they will look them up. Once they say what's involved, they will feel more comfortable reversing the rejection.

Affiliate Restrictions

In America, several states have come up with Nexus Affiliate Laws, which is a nasty scheme to tax online purchases. This causes a major headache for affiliate managers as they will need to make sure affiliates in those states comply with these laws. Ultimately, the vendor is responsible.

For some vendors, they will only deal with affiliates in states that don't have these Nexus laws. This way they don't have to charge customers tax.

Because no sale is generated in the Nexus state, the politicians not only don't receive the sales tax, but they don't receive the income tax of the affiliate since he or she is not selling on behalf of the vendor.

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about this as an affiliate, except petition your state and hope they will reverse the Nexus laws.

Amazon has restricted most Nexus states. They do all affiliates in New York because there are just too many people in the state to lose that kind of income, and they have decided to deal with the extra tax headaches.

If you live in a Nexus state, you could set up shop in a neighboring state and use a P.O. Box, etc. This is a hassle for you but if you are planning many sales of a particular vendor, it could be worth it.

Another option is to find a different affiliate program which is not as restrictive. For instance, Walmart offers many products that Amazon offers. You could become a Walmart affiliate and start selling their products.

If the restrictions are based on the vendor having a quota, you will need to plead with the affiliate manager and try to make an exception. If nothing else, ask them to place you on a waiting list for their next wave of affiliate allowances.

Inexperience of Affiliate Managers or Mistakes

If the rejection was due to inexperience on the part of the affiliate managers, hopefully you will need to talk to them and try to get them to reconsider. You may ask if you can speak with another affiliate manager (one with more experience), but this could be touchy.

In the case of a manager's mistake, they should have no trouble reversing the decision.

When All Else Fails...

Some affiliate managers will not approve you no matter what you try. You ask and beg to no avail. Most affiliate managers are very nice and willing to work with affiliates. If they do reject you they usually give you a reason why.

Some affiliate managers you will not be able to get through. They have their reasons and they may even not tell you what it is. They may say no and leave it at that.

There is one more approach you can take, but is a bit fuzzy on the ethical scale. It's not at all illegal. It's just that it could tick off the affiliate manager. But, in many cases it will get them to reverse the decision.

The idea is to go ahead and promote the products of the vendor anyway. You won't get any affiliate credit which means you won't get paid for the sales. But, as your traffic to your posts and/or pages increase, you can show the affiliate manager your stats.

When they see your stats growing for pages promoting their products, they will recognize the potential of your page. At that point, you can explain to them that you will not be continuing to promote the products (for free) unless they reverse their decision.

Here is where you are approaching that ethical fuzzy area. The affiliate manager may feel as though you are using a soft form of blackmail. There is a hint of truth to this, even though this isn't illegal the way true blackmail is.

However, the affiliate manager can't deny the sales that his or her company received on behalf of your efforts, and it's not likely they will want to give up that income.

If you are confused about how you can promote a vendor's products without permission, you simply send your traffic to their sales page. It won't contain any affiliate links and you won't receive commissions on any sales made. The purpose is to make the affiliate managers aware of the future sales they are going to miss but not working with you.

A variation on this theme is to sell competitors' products and when your traffic and sales increase, show your stats to the affiliate manager who rejected you. You may be able to get better commission rates as he or she wants to entice you to work with him or her.

Word to the Wise - Don't try this with Amazon. They don't care whether you sell for them or not. They can always find another seller. And they will likely ban you forever.

Find Another Affiliate Programs

If you don't want to use the previous tactic (or its variation), simply look for another related affiliate program. There are plenty of vendors who offer affiliate programs. It may not be ideal, but the affiliate business is transient and you need to be ready for changes.

Next Steps...

The dynamics of an affiliate business is not difficult, however, if you don't learn the right methods, you will end up taking the wrong actions. Even if you have some experience, take a look at the training offered by Wealthy Affiliate. You will learn the correct ways to run an affiliate business!

Don’t Be Afraid to Start an Online Business

By now, you have long forgotten about those New Year's resolutions you made back in December. Maybe you were successful with a few. But, like most of us (me included) they just didn't happen.

Even the fitness and diet advertising is starting to fade. They are still going, but certainly not at the frequency a couple of weeks ago.

However, don't be afraid to start an online business. I say this because if I can do it, so can you. It just takes knowing how to do it. I've got you covered there!

What Kind of Business Should You Start?

I will point you to some great training on how to choose your market, or more specifically, your niche. A niche is just a narrowly-focused market.

Suppose, for instance, that you always had an interest in jewelry. You have always loved jewelry. You have tried your hand at making it and you love to buy it.

Now, choosing jewelry as a niche is probably going to be highly competitive. You will go up against major players such as Zales, Kay, and even Amazon. The department stores also have entire departments on this market.

But, what if you drilled down into the jewelry market, and found that ruby earrings are not so saturated? Or, you could narrow it down by some other demographic, such as earrings for Millennials, etc.

I will show you how to determine how far to drill down later. And, you can certainly take this too far where there aren't many potential customers interested in that niche.

How Do You Make Money?

You'd think you would need to have a line of products to make money online. But, that is not at all necessary. You could find suppliers who will ship products for you in bulk. This requires storage for those products.

You can also strike deals with suppliers and distributors where they ship single products on your behalf. Your customer buys via your website and you contact the supplier with the shipping details. You pay the supplier less than you charge your customer. The difference is your profit.

This concept is known as Drop Shipping.

All the previously mentioned methods are viable ways to start an online business. However, it's going to require that you immerse yourself in some form of a supply chain. Specifically, here is what is needed:

  • A product or products
  • A method to let potential customers know about your products
  • A mechanism for those customers to purchase your products
  • Shipping the products to your customers when they buy
  • Any customer service issues such as returns or problems with the orders

You can probably guess that the above steps are involved, and you'd be correct. Another problem is that you have to be savvy in knowing which products are going to sell. What happens if they don't? How will you handle the excess inventory?

There is a business model that can circumvent the problems associated with the above methods. It's the affiliate model.

What Is the Affiliate Business Model?

With an affiliate business model, you still reach out to a supplier or manufacturer. The difference is you don't buy any products upfront. In fact, you don't worry about shopping carts, payment processors, returns, or any of that.

When a potential customer lands on your website, you get them interested in a product. You could do this by offering a product review. Or, you could present them with information about a vendor's products that they may not easily obtain on their own.

Then, the customer clicks on a banner or link which directs them to the vendor's page for that product. If they decide to make a purchase, you will receive a commission.

The vendor is going to give you a code, called your affiliate id. Most will even give you some banners and links that automatically contain your affiliate id. When the customer clicks on those banners or links, your affiliate id is passed on to the vendor. The vendor looks up your affiliate id and knows you are the one who sent the traffic. You get credit for any sales made by the customer.

This is an oversimplification, but you get the idea.

Could It Be This Easy?

The dynamics of an affiliate business model are this easy. You receive commissions when customers purchase via your affiliate links.

But, getting those potential customers to click through using your affiliate links is becoming more challenging. Inexperienced affiliates throw up a bunch of ids and banners and hope for sales. This is not an effective strategy.

You have to focus on why the visitor to your website would be interested in clicking and even further, why they will buy when the get to the vendor's website.

Online businesses obsess over getting traffic to their websites, and there's no doubt this is important. The thinking is the more people get to their site, the higher chance of getting sales.

However, this logic is flawed. You can (and will) get plenty of people onto your website who have no business being there. They could be freebie seekers or they simply arrived to your website by accident.

These people will never buy from you no matter how great your sales copy is or what kind of information you give them. If you were searching for information about how to paint a mountain landscape, and instead your land on a page about bird watching, what are the chances of that person buying information about bird watching?

It could happen. If your page about birds is seductive enough, you may get a few converts. But, overall, people want exactly what they are looking for and will leave your website if it's is irrelevant to them.

Always try to imagine how you would react if you were a visitor to your own website. Even better, have a friend give you feedback about your website.

Next Steps...

I created a five-step program that will get your business off the ground for 2017. Each day, you will receive one lesson. Each lesson will contain one step, which will let you grasp it quickly. Most training tries to throw way too much and you get overwhelmed.

Will Doing What You Love Get Stale?

Everyone has something they are good at. If you aren't sure of what you are good at, what do you spend your free time on? I'm not talking about activities such as watching television. I'm talking about those activities that you continue to be drawn to.

Maybe you like to play guitar or write music. For others, it will be painting a landscape. You navigate towards activities that help clear your mind and gain perspective.

In short, you are doing what you love. But, what happens when you combine what you love with your livelihood? For many, this is a dream come true.

Confucius came up with the statement, "Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life."

However, after a while, is it possible doing what you love becomes commonplace to the point where you no longer love it?

People are fickle and become bored easily. While it may be exciting in the beginning when exploring your so called true calling. But, like anything else, you will do it day in and day out, probably for many years.

How to Keep It Fresh in Your Vocation

Before you throw in the towel and give up on your dreams of doing what you love, you can spice up what you do to keep it fresh. For instance, if you become expert in your vocation, consider teaching it to others. This gives you a new perspective for your vocation. It also strengthens your position as an authority.

Another way to keep it fresh is to look for alternative ways to use your skills. As an example, if you are a musician and playing out at bars is getting old for you, why not use your talents to create and sell music to others? You could create loops and sell them to royalty-free providers, etc.

It's Not Always About Money

Getting a paycheck is an important part of life. Most of us cannot sustain our lives without it. But, if you are in a rut, why not volunteer to teach others your craft or vocation? It's a great way of giving back and it can give you perspective in your field you would not have gotten.

You can extend this concept even further by seeking out a foundation or forming your own. This comes with its own set of challenges, but that is entirely the point. You can gain a renewed sense of purpose and you will have to work through theses challenges to obtain funding for your cause. This is an exciting proposition.

Find a New Hobby

If you make your hobby your work, consider creating a new hobby so that you are not constantly immersed in the original hobby. By starting a hobby that is completely unrelated, you will have renew your passion.

You never know what can happen as you meet new people in your new hobby. It could give you some new insight in your job or it can help you find opportunities in the new hobby.

Next Steps...

If you are unsure of what you want to do, or are looking for a change and aren't quite sure how to go about it, you need some guidance. Take a look at the following, which is My #1 Recommended Product. It can show you step-by-step, how to set up an online business in any niche! You'll even learn how to select the niche so that it has the best chance of earning!

Has the Quality of PLR Improved?

As one who is constantly evaluating money making programs, I get asked if the quality of PLR has improved. There's reason to be optimistic as you'll read in this article.

What Is PLR?

PLR is an acronym for Private Label Rights. This is a fancy term for usage rights that the product creator assigns. PLR tends to have the most flexibility in how products can be used. However, there are differences among creators. It's important to heed the differences (more on this later).

As an example, someone who wrote a document could sell this document to the highest bidder. The person who buys that document obtains full rights to it. In most cases, the writer transfers  those rights to the buyer. The writer no longer has the right to do anything with that document. This is not PLR.

Suppose the writer wanted to maximize his or her earnings on that document. The document could be sold to several people and each of those people are assigned rights as defined by the writer.

What Kinds of Rights Are Attributed?

The creator of the product (the document above, etc.), can give as much or as little to the buyers he or she feels. These often include (but not limited to):

  • Giveaway
  • Sell
  • Break Up the Content Into Components
  • Produce Print Copies
  • Modify the Sales Package
  • Modify the Graphics
  • Claim Authorship

There are variations and creators can choose which they want to include (as well as others not on this list). In short, whatever the creators decide is what is allowed.

Quality of PLR

PLR started about ten years ago. People flooded the market with it and over time the quality suffered. Also, because distribution was so widespread, the value of the products diminished. If one person sells a product, it may be worth $100. If thousands are selling that same product, the price eventually gets reduced to close to zero.

People were also abusing the system by not paying attention to the rights assigned. They were giving away products when they weren't supposed to. Product creators had a difficult time keeping up with who was doing what with their products.

PLR was also used for article spinning, which is the practice of using software to replace words (usually adjectives) to create several iterations of the same document. It seemed like a good idea, except for the fact that these spun documents became unreadable. People could easily tell spun content.

Amazon and other book sellers also cracked down on sellers who passed PLR off as their own work.

Many PLR creators threw in the towel and
scrapped their PLR efforts!

Recently, within the past couple of years, there has been a renaissance in the PLR markets. Smart product creators decided to pour in some time and money and create products worthy of selling once again.

As a result, people are started to catch on that they can get quality products at attractive prices and use them strategically.

Buyers of these products are more savvy now and will hit sellers with bad reviews if they see any sign of poor quality. This is the way it should work!

How to Use the New PLR?

If you decide to use PLR for your marketing efforts, keep in mind the following:

  • Others will also buy
  • Enhance the value somehow
  • Change the product to make it yours
  • Repurpose the content for other platforms
  • Sell Bundles of PLR in a way that makes sense

Why You Need to Make It Your Own

Imagine if you saw a sales page for a product and it looked enticing. Then, a few days later, you see the same exact product appear as a free giveaway, or at the very least, it cost much less than what you paid for it. How would that make you feel? How angry would you be with the seller? Would you ask for a refund?

This scenario plays out over-and-over again, even with this newfound love for PLR. If you decide to sell PLR products, you need to make sure that others won't get caught up in this situation. When you add value to your product, this won't happen.

Example of Adding Value

Suppose you found a product offering PLR rights. The product is video instruction on a popular topic. Instead of simply selling the videos, which many others will, why not create transcripts for them? Perhaps you can extract the audio as well. Now, you have an entire package that you can offer that no one else is doing.

Few people who read the previous paragraph will take advantage of the message given! Use that to your advantage. Most people are lazy. But, you're not!

Please Evaluate the Quality of All PLR You Obtain

Your reputation is on the line. If you simply take a PLR product that you buy and sell it without scrutinizing it, what if it's junk? Do you think you will have the luxury of explaining it's the fault of the product creator? You have a responsibility to your customers to make sure what you sell is high quality.

End of Story!

How to Find Sellers of PLR

I could write an entire article just on this topic...maybe I will 🙂

The point is it will take up too much space and bloat this post. One major factor when selecting sellers of PLR is do they retain editorial control? This means they either create the content themselves (or contract writers), or they read through submissions and approve them.

Try to avoid PLR sellers who allow any member to submit without approval. There is simply no way to control the quality when that happens.

Also, see if you can find the age of the content submitted. There are PLR sellers who are still selling content created back in 2008 or earlier. This content is not likely to be relevant now. The exception to this is evergreen topics such as fishing, cooking, etc. Many PLR repositories contain Internet Marketing related topics. Products from earlier than 2015 (at the time of this writing) will quite likely not be relevant in this field.

Many PLR websites try to hook you in with a monthly membership. This doesn't make them bad places to find PLR. However, they will need a great number of products in their repository for members to continue paying the membership fee, month after month. They maybe tempted to load up the membership with anything they find, irrespective of quality.

The good news is many of these PLR websites offer trial periods usually lasting for 30-days. Be sure to scrutinize them carefully during this period and by all means, pay attention to the date they will begin charging you. Ask them what their cancellation procedures are before you sign up.

Become the Shovel Seller

So, maybe you decide you don't want to use PLR for your marketing efforts. This doesn't mean others won't. Become the shovel seller. During the United States Gold Rush era, many people tried to dig for gold. Most of them came away with nothing, especially during the latter part of the rush.

But, guess what? They needed equipment to dig for gold. Specifically, they needed shovels. Guess who made money whether those diggers found gold or not? The shovel sellers (or renters).

You could create the PLR that others want to buy. You will make money whether they make any from the PLR or not. You will make money from multiple people and it matters not whether they make a dime. Of course, if you can help them make money from your creations, they will return to you for more.

Will the New PLR Gold Rush Last?

Who knows. The quality of PLR has improved and content creation is coveted. Fewer marketers are using PLR for notorious purposes any more. It's just not in their best interest to do so. My personal feeling is the trend will continue for as long as content is needed.

One Last Use for PLR

Even if you don't want to get involved with selling or creating PLR to sell to others, it still can be used in your content creation efforts. You can use it to generate ideas on what kinds of content to create for your own market. Higher quality content that has hit the market recently requires higher quality research. You can use the PLR content as the basis for your own research efforts.
